A bill to amend the 101-year-old minority inheritance law for the Christian community has been tabled in the Punjab Assembly. The proposed bill was submitted by Philbous Christopher, Chairman of the Standing Committee on Minority Affairs. Across the country, inheritance distribution for Christians is being carried out under the Minorities Inheritance Law of 1925, which also applies to Jains, Parsis and Buddhists, while the proposed new Christian inheritance law will apply exclusively to the Christian community. According to the text of the bill, the property of any Christian man or woman will be divided equally among sons and daughters, and in case of a second marriage, property will also be equally distributed among step-siblings.<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-74782\" src=\"https:\/\/baldiyattimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/Screenshot_20261004_180832_All-PDF-Reader-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1080\" height=\"1316\" srcset=\"https:\/\/baldiyattimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/Screenshot_20261004_180832_All-PDF-Reader-2.jpg 1080w, https:\/\/baldiyattimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/Screenshot_20261004_180832_All-PDF-Reader-2-246x300.jpg 246w, https:\/\/baldiyattimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/Screenshot_20261004_180832_All-PDF-Reader-2-840x1024.jpg 840w, https:\/\/baldiyattimes.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/10\/Screenshot_20261004_180832_All-PDF-Reader-2-768x936.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1080px) 100vw, 1080px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Under the proposed law, in case of the death of a Christian man, one-third share of the property will be given to the widow, and in case of the death of a Christian woman, her husband will receive one-third share. The deceased man or woman can bequeath 25 percent of their property as a will to anyone, while the remaining 75 percent will be distributed among heirs under the proposed law. The bill further states that heirs of the deceased will be registered with NADRA under the Punjab Succession Act 2025, and gifts and donations related to inheritance distribution will also be registered. Philbous Christopher said the proposed law will benefit 2.5 million Christians living in Punjab, reflects Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif&#8217;s vision for minority rights, and will provide an opportunity for other provinces to legislate positively for minorities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Punjab Assembly has become the first legislature in the country to ensure protection of inheritance rights of the Christian community.
