Secretary P&D Board, Mr. Rafaqat Ali, chaired an important Pre-PDWP meeting to review two major initiatives Afforestation Along Linear Plantation and Mechanization of Forestry Operations in Punjab.The proposed afforestation scheme aims to enhance biodiversity, reduce smog, and combat the effects of climate change and soil erosion. It also focuses on improving air quality, providing shade, and promoting community well-being across the province.
The initiative is expected to create thousands of local employment opportunities through large-scale tree plantation and maintenance drives, offering a dual benefit of ecological restoration and economic uplift.A significant component of the plan is the development of green corridors along canals and railways to aid water retention and microclimate regulation, adding long-term environmental value.The Secretary P&D Board thoroughly reviewed both projects and emphasized coordinated, strategic action for effective implementation.Representatives from all relevant departments actively participated in the meeting.
