He said it while addressing the participants of the meeting on ‘𝐂𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝 𝐒𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐈𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞s’ at the P&D Board with the World Bank delegation held at P&D Auditorium Lahore.
The event was attended by Secretary P&D Board Dr. Asif Tufail, Chief Economist Mr. Nasir Iqbal Malik, Member Health Mr. Shafaat Ali, Member Local Govt. Mr. Tariq Mehmood Bukhari, Member PSW Mr. Aslam Javaid, and CD World Bank Mr. Najy Benhassine via online, representatives of concerned departments and the World Bank.
The chair was briefed on the comprehensive overview of child stunting by lead research economist at the World Bank, Ms. Ghazala Mansuri. She said that it has both adverse physical and cognitive development effects and is a result of chronic or recurrent malnutrition. She further said the critical age of vulnerability to stunting is associated with poor nutrition and repeated infections due to poor water quality and sanitation.
𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧 𝐏&𝐃 𝐁𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝, Barrister Nabeel Ahmad Awan, stated that the meeting will improve knowledge of Punjab stunting and malnutrition problems and open up new avenues for more effective combat.
𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐏&𝐃 𝐁𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝 Dr. Asif Tufail underlined that cooperation amongst all departments will be proved helpful to resolve this critical issue.
𝗖𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗗𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝗕𝗮𝗻𝗸 Mr Najy Benhassine said WB will provide complete assistance and support to pave the path for the prevention of child-stunning difficulties.
