Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif made a surprise visits of Lahore city and reviewed the pace and quality of ongoing development works. She reviewed the implementation of mega project for the development of Lahore. She made a surprise visit to various zones of the historic ‘Lahore Development Program’ with regard to Lahore’s development.
The Chief Minister inspected the progress being made on the ongoing development projects in various zones. She directed that equal development and quality of every area of Lahore should be ensured like Punjab.
She while talking to the officials said, "I want to create such a system so that such problems should not resurface and do not cause distress to the people. The ‘Lahore Development Program’ is meant for the development and uplift of the entire Lahore including the poor, rich and middle class. Years of public grievances will be resolved under this program.”
Under the project, the entire Lahore has been divided into 9 zones so that no area, neighborhood or settlement is left out of the development process. The projects will be implemented in two parts in a phased manner. In the first phase, development work will be done in 6 zones, in the second phase it will be done in 3 zones. The 9 zones have been named after Gulberg, Data Ganj Bakhsh, Samanabad, Shalamar, Ravi, Aziz Bhatti, Nishtar, Wagah and Allama Iqbal.
CM Punjab was informed in the briefing that out of total 450 development schemes in the first phase of the ‘Lahore Development Program’, 252 belongs to WASA and 198 belongs to the Municipal Corporation Lahore. Construction work has been assigned in 433 schemes, while work has also started on 411 development schemes.
Under the Lahore Development Program, pavement of streets, roads, intersections, laying of drainage, sewer lines and installation of sewer covers is in progress.
For the first time, large diameter sewer lines are being laid in all zones. Modern engineering designs and methods are being adopted so that no problems with regard to sewage blockages and drainage are faced by the people.
All contracts have been digitized and incorporated into the system. The quality and speed of all the development projects are being closely monitored. The onground status of the ongoing work is uploaded in the form of pictures and videos through ‘Inspector App’. Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb also accompanied the Chief Minister.
