Sindh CM reviews progress of 5 road infrastructure projects approved by CDWP

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah reviewed the progress and financial structuring of five major road infrastructure projects recommended by the Central Development Working Party (CDWP) for consideration by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC).The review meeting, held at CM House, was attended by P&D Minister Syed Nasir Shah, Minister Local Government Saeed Ghani, Minister Works Ali Hassan Zardari, Chairman P&D Najam Shah, Secretary Works Nawa Sohoo, Special Secretary Finance Asghar memon,The chief minister was briefed by the Chairman Planning & Development Department, Najam Shah and Secretary Works & Services Department Nawaz Sohoo, on the revised cost estimates, scope, and funding mechanisms of the projects.

The schemes include the Sindh Coastal Highway Phase-II, dualization and improvement of major inter-district corridors, and the construction of additional carriageways along the Mehran Highway.

Coastal Highway Phase-II: Extension / Construction of Sindh Coastal Highway Phase-II is 36 km, and its cost has been revised from Rs 26.9 billion to Rs 37.718 billion.

The chief minister said that the federal government to cover Rs 26.961 billion (original plus 50 per cent of increased cost), while the remaining Rs 10.756 billion will be funded by the Sindh government through ADP.

Tando Allahyar–Tando Adam Road: Dualization of Tando Allahyar–Tando Adam Road is a 31.4 km scheme. Its revised cost is Rs 9.284 billion. Under the cost-sharing arrangement, the federal share is Rs 6.687 billion, while Sindh will pay Rs 2.597 billion under ADP.

Mehran Highway: Dualization of Mehran Highway from Nawabshah to Ranipur is a 135 km scheme. The cost of the scheme has been revised to Rs 41.034 billion. The Cost-sharing between the federal and provincial governments has been agreed. The original cost Rs 21.926 billion of the scheme to be covered by the Federal Government, while the increased cost of Rs 19.108 billion to be split equally between the Centre and Sindh.

Sanghar to Rohri: Improvement of road from Sanghar to National Highway N-5 at point Rohri via Mudh Jamrao and Salehput is a 221 km scheme. The revised cost of the scheme is awaiting rationalisation. The chief minister directed Minister P&D to rationalise it and share with the federal government.

Rohri to Guddu Barrage Road: Improvement of Road from Rohri to Guddu Barrage at Motorway (M-5) via Khanpur Mahar, Mirpur Mathelo and Mureed Shakh is a 150 km scheme. The scheme has been revised at Rs 17.791 billion. The federal government’s contribution would be = Rs 7.822 billion through PSDP, while the remaining Rs 10.148 billion to be financed by the Sindh government.

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah emphasised the importance of transparent, timely execution of these strategic infrastructure projects. “These roads will not only improve connectivity across districts but also contribute to regional economic development, especially along the coastal belt and industrial zones,” he said. He directed relevant departments to expedite submission of rationalised costs where pending and ensure adherence to procurement laws and quality standards.

The projects are part of Sindh’s broader vision for infrastructure development and regional integration, aligning with national economic growth objectives.
