Syed Zahid Aziz, Chairman, Pakistan Water Operators Network (PWON) and Managing Director, Punjab Municipal Development Fund Company (PMDFC), participated as a distinguished speaker at the 6th Global Water Operators’ Partnerships (GWOPs) Congress, held at the World Conference Center, Bonn, Germany.

During his address, Chairman PWON emphasized the importance of capacity building, digital transformation, and collaborative governance in addressing the growing challenges of urban water supply and sanitation in developing countries. He also underscored the role of PMDFC and PWON in driving reforms in Pakistan’s municipal water sector, particularly through initiatives that promote innovation, benchmarking, and partnerships with international agencies such as UNICEF, GIZ, and the World Bank. He also highlighted innovative and environmentally friendly solutions being implemented —such as floating wetlands, underground water storage tanks, and wastewater treatment plants—which are not only contributing to water conservation but also helping to protect freshwater resources, groundwater, and reduce environmental pollution.

On the sidelines of the event, Chairman PWON also held bilateral discussions with representatives of international water associations and donor organizations, exploring avenues for future collaboration, technical exchange, and investment opportunities in Pakistan’s municipal and water services sector.
