A high-level delegation from the Government of Punjab, visiting Germany/Austria, led by Mr. Zeeshan Rafique, Minister for Local Government & Community Development (LG&CDD), held detailed discussions with Mr. Karl Schloegelbauer, Vice President, Business Development (Large Hydro) at ANDRITZ HYDRO GmbH. The visit was organized with the financial support of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and the technical support of GIZ.
The delegation also included Dr. Naeem Rauf, Chairman Planning & Development Board, Mr. Shakeel Ahmad, Secretary LG&CDD, Dr. Farrukh Naveed, Secretary Energy Punjab, Mr. Adnan Mudassar, Chief Executive Officer, Punjab Energy Board, Mr. Mahmood Masood Tamana, General Manager (Institutional Development), PMDFC, and Mr. Asim Shafi, Program Component Manager, GIZ Pakistan.
During the meeting, the delegation was briefed on ANDRITZ HYDRO’s expertise in waste-to-energy, including how municipal waste can be efficiently converted into energy through advanced technologies. Mr. Schloegelbauer explained how integrated systems developed by ANDRITZ help in waste sorting, smoke and emission control, and carbon credit optimization. The Delegates also visited the company plants in Graz and Vienna.
The discussions also explored potential collaboration between Punjab and ANDRITZ HYDRO in developing sustainable waste-to-energy projects in the province. The Minister LG&CDD appreciated the company’s innovative approach, highlighting the Punjab government’s commitment to introducing clean energy solutions that would not only reduce environmental pollution but also enhance resource efficiency.

Minister LG&CDD stated, “We are keen to adopt advanced waste-to-energy solutions in Punjab so that solid waste can be effectively utilized for energy production, minimizing land pollution and contributing to our green energy goals.”
