The Planning and Development Department of Gilgit-Baltistan proudly announces the successful completion of a month-long training program for enumerators engaged for the Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS) 2024/25. This essential survey, aimed at generating estimates for 198 district-level indicators, is set to provide crucial insights for the region’s development initiatives.

The MICS 2024/25 in Gilgit-Baltistan features 69 modules and includes five comprehensive questionnaires, highlighting key areas such as mental health and water quality. This second round of MICS will empower the Government of Gilgit-Baltistan to monitor progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by allowing comparisons with data collected in the previous MICS of 2016/17.

During the closing ceremony, the Additional Chief Secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan underscored the significance of quality data in fostering effective planning and resource allocation. "Reliable data is the backbone of informed decision-making. The insights garnered from this survey will be instrumental in shaping policies that directly impact our communities,” he stated.

The event also featured remarks from esteemed speakers, including the Vice Chancellor of Karakoram International University (KIU) and senior leaders from the Planning and Development Department. They emphasized the collaborative effort required to achieve the survey’s objectives and the vital role of enumerators in gathering accurate and representative data.

The training equipped enumerators, supervisors, and measurers with the necessary skills and knowledge to carry out the survey effectively. Their commitment and expertise will ensure the MICS 2024/25 produces high-quality data, essential for tracking progress and addressing the diverse needs of the region. The survey teams will cover ten districts of Gilgit-Baltistan in 4 months starting from September 25, 2024.

The Planning and Development Department extends its gratitude to all participants and trainers who contributed to the success of this training initiative. As the MICS 2024/25 gets underway, it stands as a testament to Gilgit-Baltistan’s dedication to data-driven sustainable development.
