A productive meeting was held today with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), chaired by Secretary EP&CCD Dr. Silwat Saeed . The discussion focused on the feasibility and pre-feasibility assessments for the Lakhodair Landfill project. Pakistan’s first potential Article_6 carbon market initiative Key technical and strategic areas were explored to ensure alignment with global environmental standards.

Backed by UNEP Copenhagen Climate Centre through the SPAR6C programme, this project aims to turn daily methane emissions from over 5,500 tons of waste into energy and carbon revenue. With UNEP’s technical expertise and EP&CCD’s leadership, Punjab moves closer to achieving sustainable and measurable environmental outcomes and is leading the way in reducing emissions, enhancing climate finance, and setting a replicable model for sustainable landfill management across Pakistan.
